Guide on Bone Spur and its Causes

Bone spur is an extra bone which grows on the normal bone. It is also known as osteophytes.The bone spur it self doesn’t causes any pain but when it rub on other bones and also on the nerves it causes pain. Especially it occurs on the joints of feet, hips, spine, knees, shoulders and hands. It is common problem and occurs at above 60 years of age and also it shows the degeneration of the spine. It creates pressure on the surrounding skin and tissue.

- It is common in osteoarthritis condition, in your joints the osteoarthritis causes the loss of cartilage and degradation . Thus your body attempt to generate new bone structure along the edges of the existing bone.

- Bone spur also causes due to some disease and conditions like DISH (Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis ), plantar fasciitis, spinal stenosis and spondylosis. The DISH causes the growth of bone on the ligament of your spine. In plantar fascitis causes the growth of bone where the fascia connects to your calcaneus. In spinal stenosis condition the growth of bone takes place on your spinal cord by putting pressure on it. The spondylosis cause the growth of bone on your neck or lower back.

- Bone spur is also the part of natural process of aging, irrespective and independently of health condition. And thus it forms their own.
