Treatment Options for Treating Thyroid Cancer

There are various type treatments are available for treating the thyroid cancer. Now a days four types of standard treatments are used for treating i.e Radiation Therapy, Surgery, Chemotherapy and Thyroid Hormone Therapy. Also their are new treatments which is being tested in the clinical test.

Radiation Therapy:
This therapy uses the high energy x-rays to kill the cancer cells. There are two types of radiation therapy i.e Internal Radiation Therapy and External Radiation Therapy. In the Internal Radiation Therapy the radioactive substances uses which is sealed in the seeds, needles and wires and it is placed directly into the cancer. While in the External Radiation Therapy uses a machine to send radiation towards the cancer.
The ways of the radiation therapy for treating the cancer will be depends on the stage of the cancer.

Chemotherapy:
In this treatment , the drugs are used for stopping the growth of cancer cells. The drugs when injected through mouth or into the vain, it enters in the bloodstream and reaches in the cancer cells throughout the body.

Surgery:
It is most common treatment of the thyroid cancer. The surgery treatment contains four procedure, any one of them is used for treating thyroid cancer.
a. Total Thyroidectomy: In this procedure removal of whole thyroid is takes place.
b. Lobectomy: In this procedure the removal of lode is takes place where the cancel is found.
c. Lymphadenectomy: The removal of lymph node is takes place.
d. Near-Total Thyroidectomy: In the procedure the removal of every small part of thyroid is takes place.

Thyroid Hormone Therapy:

This treatment is helpful for removing the hormones and also stop the growth of the cancer cells. The hormones are nothing but a substances which are made by glands in the body and it is circulated in the bloodstream. Also in this treatment , the drugs are given for preventing the body from making TSH, the TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone which increase the chances of growing thyroid cancer .
